ABOUT
The Agia Ekaterini Sinaiton Christian Art Museum is located in the Agia Ekaterini Church, which is situated in the heart of Heraklion, right next to the Metropolitan Church of Agios Minas.
The museum's exhibition primarily showcases religious art that originated in Crete between the 14th and 19th centuries. It places special emphasis on post-Byzantine icons, particularly representative works of the Cretan School of iconography.
Among the most significant exhibits are the icons of two prominent representatives of this school, Angelos Akotantos (early 15th century) and Michael Damaskinos (16th century).
The exhibition also features samples of wall paintings, stone carving, wood carving, post-Byzantine metalwork and micro-art, coins, religious artefacts, vestments, embroidery, manuscripts, and incunabula.
Periodically, fascinating exhibitions are hosted.
