Meet Nikos Kitsikis, a distinguished civil engineer and former rector of the National Technical University of Athens. In the years between 1920-1922, he spearheaded the study and supervision of the construction of the port, leaving an indelible mark on its development.

To pay homage to his contributions, a monument has been erected in the Venetian harbour, near Koules. Crafted by the renowned sculptor Aspasia Papadoperaki, this work stands as a tribute to the visionary architect, Nikos Kitsikis, whose legacy continues to shape the maritime landscape of Heraklion.
