ABOUT

As you acquaint yourself with your guide and gather essential details about the forthcoming excursion, your journey will take you southeast to the quaint village of Kavousi, nestled at the northern foothills of Thripti (Thrypti) mountain range. Here, a delightful stop awaits, where you can indulge in the time-honoured tradition of sipping a rich and aromatic Greek coffee.

With your coffee break behind you, brace yourself for an off-road expedition. On the way to the archaeological site of Azoria, you'll encounter an extraordinary sight – the world's oldest known olive tree, planted in the period 1350-1100 BC. Pause for a moment to delve into its rich history, capture photos, and immerse yourself in the timeless allure of this ancient marvel.

Just a short distance away, the captivating archaeological site of ancient Azoria awaits. Steeped in historical significance, this site dates back to the Minoan era and witnessed continuous habitation from the Neolithic Age until the 5th century BC, when it met a fiery fate. Remarkably, it was later relocated in the 2nd century BC, marked by the construction of a towering structure overlooking the scenic beaches.

Immerse yourself in history as you step into the past, wandering amidst the intriguing ruins of Azoria. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to walk through the ancient remnants and capture the essence of this archaeological site with your camera.

Leaving behind the rich history of ancient Azoria, your off-road adventure takes flight once more. Ascend to the pinnacle of Mt Thripti, where an abandoned observatory awaits. Brace yourself for a breath-taking spectacle as you behold the mesmerising view of both the island's north and south sides. With luck on your side and clear weather, an extraordinary sight unfolds – the awe-inspiring panorama of both the north and south coasts of Crete, all from the same spot.

After the thrilling escapades atop Mt Thripti, your journey leads you to the heart of the village itself. Prepare to indulge in an authentic Cretan feast at a charming traditional taverna. Here, the locals will warmly welcome you, serving up mouth-watering handmade delicacies, cooked with love and skill.

Continuing your adventure, the path leads to the quaint and traditional village of Kato Chorio. Here, a brief stop awaits, offering you a taste of tsikoudia, a local Cretan spirit. From there, your route follows the provincial road, guiding you towards the exit of the Ha Gorge.

As your exploration of the Ha Gorge comes to an end, you'll trace your way back along the motorway, heading back to your hotel.
