On Sunday, 21 September 2025, the Agios Nikolaos Mountaineering Club will take part in the 8th Sitia Geopark Trail, hiking through the famous Gorge of the Dead, at the easternmost tip of Crete.

“We’ll start from the picturesque village of Zakros and hike along the gorge all the way to the seaside settlement of Kato Zakros, where we’ll stop for food and a swim, or for a visit to the archaeological site of the Minoan palace. Afterwards, a bus provided by the organisers will take us back to Zakros, where we’ll stroll through the village’s narrow streets and springs before heading home,”** the organisers announced.

DEPARTURE: From Agios Nikolaos (K. Karamanli 23, S/M VASILOPOULOS) on Sunday morning at 07:00. Travel to the area will be by private cars. Please pay the €10 fee to your driver.

HIKE DURATION: Approximately 2.5 hours (excluding necessary breaks)

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: 1 (easy)
