The Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos is organising a hike on Sunday, January 25, 2026, to some of the most spiritually, historically, and naturally significant sites in the Akrotiri Peninsula near Chania.

"We’ll start with a visit to the Gouverneto Monastery, and after a short walk, we’ll reach the Arkoudospilios cave and the cave of Saint John. From there, we’ll descend through the gorge to the Monastery of Katholiko and the nearby beach of the same name. The final stretch takes us uphill again, heading towards Stavros, the seaside village where the film Zorba the Greek was shot," according to the announcement.

  • Hiking boots

  • Walking sticks

  • Water

  • Snacks

  • Raincoat or windbreaker
