Get ready at the starting line once again!

After the successful 10th Nikiforeios Run held on April 13, the baton of athletic action now passes to the City Run, taking place on Sunday, May 11, 2025.

The event is organised by the Department of Sports of the Municipality of Rethymno, in collaboration with the Region of Crete, the Regional Unit of Rethymno, the Rethymno Health Runners Club, and the Association of Rethymno Gym Teachers.

With the slogan “Run, walk, cross the city,” this event brings together people from all walks of life. It includes six different races, covering distances of 1,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m, and is designed for all types of participants.

There will be races for athletes, non-athletes, primary and high school students, families (parents with children), people with disabilities and Special Olympics athletes.

The city will once again fill with energy in this well-established event that has become a Rethymno tradition. It promises a joyful and inclusive experience for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.

All races will start at 09:00 from the Rethymno Municipal Garden, and part of the proceeds will be donated to the Association of Parents, Guardians and Friends of People with Autism.

A press conference will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 12:30, at the City Hall Council Room.

For those who wish to join or want more information, visit the official websites of the Municipality of Rethymno (www.rethymno.gr) and the Rethymno Health Runners Club (www.sdyr.gr).

“The City Run gives every Rethymnian – and not only – a chance to experience something unique, right outside their doorstep,” said Nikos Provias, Deputy Mayor for Sports.
“For 15 years now, this event has been a vital part of our city’s sports culture. Every time we aim to make it even richer. This race gets us off the couch and into the streets – running, walking, rediscovering our city.”

The 15th City Run will be the cherry on top of a packed sports weekend in Rethymno. On Saturday, May 10, the Regional Artistic Gymnastics Championships take place, followed on Sunday by the final of the A1 Corporate Basketball League.
