On Sunday, November 9th, 2025, the Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos will be organising a circular hike for its members – or for anyone who would like to join as a new member – on the southwest side of Lasithi.
“We’ll start from Kefalovryso, near Kato Symi, and follow a beautiful path through a pine forest with views of the southern Cretan Sea, reaching the renowned Omalos Plateau, nestled at the southern foot of Mount Afentis Dikti. From there, we’ll make a small detour to reach the Pantoura summit before returning to our starting point via trail and dirt road,” the organisers explain.


Essentials: Hiking boots, poles, water, snacks, hat and sunscreen – or a rain jacket depending on the weather.
Departure: From Agios Nikolaos (K. Karamanli 23, Vasilopoulos Supermarket) at 7:30 AM, or alternatively from Robby Café on the Ierapetra–Gra Lygia road at 8:10 AM.
Transport: By private cars – please contribute €10 to the driver.
Hiking duration: Approximately 5 hours (not including breaks)
Elevation gain: Around 800m
Difficulty level: 2
Distance: 15 km
