The Rethymno Mountaineering Club (EOS Rethymnou) is organising the route Agios Ioannis – Drakolaki – Northern section of Aradena Gorge – Aradena Bridge on Sunday, 23 November 2025.
In the announcement, the following is stated:
“Our route starts at Agios Ioannis in Sfakia. We will climb up to the Robythe plateau and Krousia, with views of the steep southern slopes of the White Mountains. We will then head west to Drakolaki cave, walking along a wooded and visible trail.
Our descent to the bridge and the abandoned village of Aradena will be off-trail. The first section is somewhat steep, through pine forest and ravine, until we reach the northern part of the gorge, and then continue descending with some spots requiring the use of hands or even sliding.”
