Anasouvari… The Mother of Water: A New Adventure from Dromoi Zois

Adventure & Action

On Sunday, 23 November 2025, Dromoi Zois will head out to the Amari Valley in central Rethymno. The colour palette—lush greens, golden hues, and earthy browns—will be in full display, to satisfy the eyes and uplift the soul…

And if the trail wears us out, a “resting place of memory”, the stunning Anasouvari – “the mother of water!!”, will be waiting for us. This settlement, dating back to 1580, now a ghost village (inhabited until around 1750), will welcome us with stories, views, and rest. A beautiful space—created by Mr. Manolis Skarsoulis—worth visiting all on its own!

Right next to it stands the Church of Zoodochos Pigi – Panagia of Anasouvari, which we will also visit.

At the end of our hike, we’ll have free time to explore the region’s main village – Apostoloi, with its picturesque alleys, its theatre, and, of course, the tavernas and cafés for that essential pit-stop!

Hiking duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes | Difficulty: 1 (easy)

Departure: from the Saturday Farmers’ Market (Agia Anna) at 08:00, Sunday, 23/11/2025.
