Spilies (Caves): The Hidden Gem of Rethymno's Coastal Beauty

Nestled among the caves, Spilies Beach is often referred to as ‘Too Maliou (to riaki)’. Located approximately 15 kilometres east of the city of Rethymno, it features a small bay with pebbles and remarkably clear, deep waters. On weekdays, it tends to be less crowded, but at weekends, it attracts a fair number of visitors; not many are required to fill the beach entirely. Parasols and sunbeds are available for use, and there is a canteen on-site. It is an excellent beach option for windy days, providing some shelter and an enjoyable seaside experience.

The beach is notable for its caves, which serve as a refuge for the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus). Access to the beach is available via the motorway.
