Tris Ekklisies is situated at the mouth of the Abbas Gorge, 65 kilometres south of Heraklion. The village derives its name from the three Byzantine churches found in the vicinity.

The settlement of Tris Ekklisies features magnificent beaches that create a distinctive landscape, harmonising with the untamed beauty of the Asterousia region.

The beach in front of the village boasts sandy shores and deep, crystal-clear waters. Nearby, you'll find tavernas and cafés where you can relish moments of relaxation. Although the beach is not equipped with facilities, the area offers rooms available for rent.

To the east of the main beach, you'll find the Kolovrechti beach, adjacent to a spacious cave that is well worth visiting.

A sandy beach called Pachia Ammos is formed at the exit of the Agia Paraskevi gorge, surrounded by the largest carob forest in Europe. You can reach Pachia Ammos from the village by taking a short dirt road. It is worth noting that this location serves as a nesting site for the endangered Caretta Sea Turtles.

To the west of the beach and beneath the carob forest in the Ornios area, numerous underwater caves are found, including Glykis Kolimbos. It is believed that somewhere in this area, there is a spring with fresh water. One particularly remarkable underwater cave lies between Ornios and Glykis Kolimbos. The cave has a very small opening at sea level, but once inside, it opens up into an impressive gap. Moreover, it can also be accessed underwater through a hole leading to the same point.

Beside Voidomatis lies the charming and bustling beach of Kolovrechtis, nestled beneath the winding turns that descend from Paranimfi.

Kolovrechtis Beach is a favourite among the residents of Tris Ekklisies, situated at the Abas (Abbas) Gorge exit. The walls of this lesser-known gorge harbour the largest vulture colony in Greece and southern Europe, including the unique vulture species Gypaetus barbatus, known as the rarest and most endangered predator in Europe.

It is here that the captivating yet challenging Mesosfini Gorge concludes with its high walls and untamed rocks.

It is located 100 metres west of Plysimo Beach.

It’s known as Voidomatis or Vouidomatos.

In the sea, you'll find two prominent rocks and a large cave to the east, which locals believe to be the ‘Eye of the Ox’ (or Voidomati). Access to this area can be achieved through the rugged dirt road that commences from Tris Ekklisies, leading eastward.
