Water & Water Power Museum of Zakros
ABOUT
The museum has a thematic focus on collecting objects and materials related to the historical use of water. Its purpose is to emphasize the significance of water.
The Water Museum of Zakros is housed in the restored watermills that were donated by the families that owned them in 1997. The mills that have been restored and transformed into exhibition halls are:
- The mill of Brilakena was owned by the Bilakis family and N Rodanakis and built before 1900. Next to it is an olive press owned by N Rodanakis.
- The mill of Rodonovangelis was built before 1900 by the father of Vangelis Rodanakis. In the same area there was an olive press (Fabrica) that operated with the power of water until 1955.
- The Xopapas mill is one of the oldest water mills. There is an oven outside.
