The Splendid Beach of Koutsouras

On Crete's southern motorway, a few kilometres before reaching Makris Gialos and approximately 41 kilometres from Sitia, you'll find Koutsouras, the most recent addition to the villages in the Sitia province.

The rapid development of the settlement during the 1980s led to the establishment of a significant tourist hub in the southern part of the province.

It's a marvellous beach adorned with distinctive, dark grey pebbles scattered across its expanse, accompanied by crystal clear, blue-green waters. Tamarisk trees gracefully provide their shade, adding to the charm of the place.

The beach of Koutsouras presents an exciting challenge for visitors. It has earned the prestigious blue flag recognition from the European Union, making it the first of the southern beaches encountered on the journey from Ierapetra to Sitia.
