Skopi: Historic Monastery and Coastal Charms
ABOUT
It is one of the largest villages within the Sitia municipality.
Skopi is home to the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni of Trachilas, established in the 15th century by Ioannikios and later renovated and expanded in the 17th century by Gennadius. To the east of Platani begins the stunning Agion Panton Gorge, recently marked and promoted as a remarkable nature trail.
Another notable landmark is the remains of the historic Liopetro fortress, believed to have been constructed during the Genoese era.
Skopi also encompasses the quaint coastal settlements of Papadiokampos and Platani.
