Sfaka: Named After a Plant and a Fountain

Cities & Villages

ABOUT

Located at an altitude of 300 metres, Sfaka charms visitors with its natural beauty.

Its name comes from the plant of the same name that grew near a fountain. In the location of Keratidi, archaeologists uncovered a Minoan tomb containing a box-shaped urn. The old two-aisled Church of Agia Triada and Panagia holds a dedicatory inscription by Michael Sylignas, dated 2nd March 1643. There's also a lovely Ottoman Fountain situated to the west of the village.

Sfaka serves as a starting point for an asphalt road leading to the coastal tourist destination of Mochlos and a rural road leading to the stunning small plateau of Monokara.
