Memorial to Victims of Nazi Executions in Kallikratis
ABOUT
The village of Kallikratis is among the numerous villages in Crete that endured hardships at the hands of the Germans during the Occupation.
As per the Municipality of Sfakia, during the Second World War, it served as a base for British and New Zealand forces. Consequently, in 1943, the Germans pillaged and set ablaze 100 out of the 120 houses in the village. Additionally, they executed 20 men and 9 women, including an elderly woman of 80 who was killed in her bed.
