Karydi: A Charming Village with Abundant Attractions
ABOUT
In the heart of the village, you'll find a square featuring a church, a café, and traditional shops, including a grocery store, a tailor’s shop, and a harness factory.
The village's houses are typically small, one-room structures, showcasing classic examples of traditional rural Cretan architecture. These homes range in size from 25 to 35 square metres, and two-storey houses are relatively scarce. Some of these properties may include additional outbuildings in the yard, where features like ovens and wine presses were situated.
The former village primary school has been transformed into the information centre for the Sitia Geopark. Additionally, this centre provides accommodation for visitors, offering a welcoming place to stay.
In close proximity to Karydi lies the cave of Ano Peristeras, one of the largest river caves in Greece, boasting a mapped length of approximately 7 kilometres.
