Kaloyeros (or Kalogerou): A Picturesque Village in the Municipality of Amari
ABOUT
It is one of the most beautiful and picturesque villages of the Amari region.
Kaloyeros (or Kalogerou) is built at an altitude of 480 meters, opposite the village of Thronos. According to tradition, it took its name from a monk ("kaloyeros" in Greek) who renounced monastic life and settled here to start a family.
The village has been declared a traditional settlement, as it preserves much of its traditional architecture. As the Municipality of Amari notes, its narrow alleys, old stone-built houses with simple design and elaborate stone door frames transport visitors back to Crete of previous centuries.
