Only 4 kilometres away from Chania, Mournies is a popular choice for permanent residence among many.

During the 17th century, many individuals opted to construct their villas in this area. Particularly noteworthy is Villa Koukounara, which, having hosted ambassadors and kings, remains prominent even in the present day.

The area is home to numerous monasteries and churches.

However, the place is more renowned due to Eleftherios Venizelos, the prominent politician of Crete who hailed from this area.

His family home has been converted into a museum.

Malaxa: A Small Village with a Rich History

Nestled at the base of the White Mountains, Malaxa emerges as a quaint village in Chania.

It is conveniently located a short distance from both the port of Souda and the city of Chania.

In 1821, it served as the base for the revolutionaries, and around 1860, the Ottomans constructed the renowned tower in the area for defensive purposes.

The village played a significant role in the Battle of Crete.

Today, however, the village is tranquil and perfect for a peaceful holiday experience.
