The village of Achendrias is known for the Cretan snake called 'Ochendria' from which it takes its name. It is a livestock village located in Asterousia.

It holds significant ecological importance in preserving the biodiversity of the Protected Area of Asterousia.

While in the area, don't miss the chance to taste the local cheese and explore the unique architecture of the mitata.

The village is situated beneath the mountain Asfendylias, making it an ideal location for easy connections to most of South Crete, as it is not hindered by many obstacles.

From the village start some of the most beautiful hiking trails of this mountainous zone.

The Byzantine church of Agios Demetrios is a notable attraction. In the area of Agios Nikitas, there is a palm forest, αround the village, there are many caves, including the Archontospilios at Agios Nikitas (Gialos) and Chirospilios.
