Details on service provision, medical tests, and result delivery

The University General Hospital of Heraklion (UGHH) is situated in the city of Heraklion and provides secondary and tertiary healthcare services within the prefecture.

UGHH (PAGNI) has 672 beds and caters to patients from the Heraklion prefecture, as well as handling emergency cases that require specialised care from across the entire island and nearby islands, facilitated by air ambulance services.

It is a contemporary hospital staffed with highly trained personnel, offering the convenience of online appointment (e-appointment) booking for doctor visits, both in the morning and afternoon, through their website.

Additionally, it is possible to access your examination results electronically through the e-results system. Using the hospital's website, you can easily search for your preferred doctor and stay informed about the doctors currently available in each clinic.

Furthermore, an Android mobile phone application  has been developed, providing information about the University Hospital of Heraklion, including details about doctors on call, a phone directory, and appointment scheduling. This app offers users the convenience of staying informed while also granting access to various citizen services, such as appointment reservations, doctor profiles, on-call schedules, and afternoon clinic information.

Simultaneously, the ‘Stavros Niarchos PAGNI’ Guest House has been in operation at PAGNI since 2004, thanks to a generous donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. This guest house features 29 double rooms, accommodating a total of 58 individuals, including patients and their companions, who are either hospitalised or receiving treatment in hospital departments or clinics. It primarily addresses the fundamental social housing requirements of individuals who may be socially or economically vulnerable, thereby fulfilling a significant social function. The Guest House's primary objectives include:

  • Self-care patients who visit the General Hospital and need continuous daily hospitalisation during treatments like radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
  • Relatives or companions of critically ill patients admitted to PAGNI clinics who have no other means of accommodation.
  • Escorts or patients arriving by air ambulance from nearby islands.
  • Escorts or patients from any other Health District.
