The Municipality of Platanias, as part of the co-organisation of the 10th Crete Marathon (dedicated to the memory of the late Metropolitan of Kissamos & Selino, “Eirinaios Galanakis”), in collaboration with the Health Runners Association, the Regional Unit of Chania, the Municipalities of the Chania Regional Unit, and other bodies, will hold on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 19:00, the “Kotinos Cutting Ceremony from the Monumental Olive Tree of Vouves”.

The ceremony will take place in collaboration with the Athletic Dance Association “Pelasgoi”, whose members, following the ancient ritual, will cut a branch from the Ancient Olive Tree. This branch will then be handed over by the Mayor of Platanias, Mr Giannis Malandrakis, to the Organising Committee, during the opening ceremony at the Chania National Stadium (E.A.K. Chania).
