The Municipality of Platanias announces the return of its successful hiking initiative, featuring trails that have been highlighted, marked, and maintained in areas of historical and environmental interest.

On Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 4:15 p.m., a hike will take place in Modi, in collaboration with the Modi Community and Cultural Association, starting from the square in front of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour.

Hikers will follow a 4.5-kilometre circular route of mild difficulty (there are two uphill segments of about 150 metres, one of which includes steps), through lush green surroundings. Along the way, they’ll pass through the Ecological and Religious Park of Agios Gerasimos, visiting the cave where Saint Gerasimos lived for a period.

There, on the eve of the saint’s feast day, participants will have the opportunity to visit and venerate the small church of Agios Gerasimos. The surrounding area has been landscaped and maintained by the Municipality of Platanias, creating an ecological and spiritual park in a setting of remarkable natural beauty.

At the park, local organisations will offer a small treat to hikers before they return to the Church of the Transfiguration square around 6:45 p.m.

Light clothing, suitable footwear, and water are recommended.
As always, the Samaritan Division of the Red Cross from the Kissamos branch will accompany the hike for the safety of all participants, say the organisers.
