Crete joins the Olympic Torch Relay!

Following the Lighting Ceremony in Ancient Olympia on Tuesday 16th April, for the ‘Paris 2024’ Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch Relay will traverse most of Greece.

The Torch Relay across Greece, organised by the Hellenic Olympic Committee, spans 11 days. Covering a total distance of 5,202 km and 563 nautical miles, the Olympic Flame is carried by 600 Torch runners.

The journey also includes a passage through Crete, with the Olympic Flame scheduled to be handed over to the Organising Committee of the Paris Olympic Games on 26th April 2024, at 18:30 at the Panathenaic Stadium. This event will be part of a public Ceremony featuring special artistic performances.

On Thursday 18th April 2024, the Olympic Flame will journey through Crete, passing through Agios Nikolaos, Knossos, Heraklion, Rethymno, and concluding its route in Chania.
