On Sunday, June 29th, 2025, the Mountaineering Club of Agios Nikolaos is organizing an easy circular afternoon hike for its members and friends, through the beautiful and historic forest of Kroustas.
"We start from the location 'Tourkisses', pass by the hill of 'Fortetsa', a place of worship or observation point, as it stood on the border between the ancient cities of Lato and Ierapytna. Then we come across a well-preserved traditional threshing floor, three circular wells used for storing water or grains during Minoan times, and finally reach the site 'Asfentamous', where a 4,000-year-old ancient rural settlement has been identified. We return to our starting point and from there we can also visit the nearby cave of the partisans, located right next to the road," say the members.
DEPARTURE: from Agios Nikolaos (K. Karamanli 23, S/M VASILOPOULOS) on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 PM.
The transfer to the area will be done with our own cars (please contribute €5 to the driver).
REQUIRED: Flashlight and windbreaker, depending on weather conditions.
HIKE DURATION: 3 hours (excluding necessary stops)
DISTANCE: 5 kilometers
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: 1
LEADER: Giorgos Vardakis
