Vikelea: A... living Library
ABOUT
The Vikelea Municipal Library is located opposite the most central point of Heraklion, Lions Square. It is not merely a lending library, it is a beacon of culture, an exhibition and event hall as well as a publisher.
These activities allow it to differentiate itself from other regional libraries and follow its own cultural and intellectual path plotting a fitting upward trajectory. No wonder the Dane
Commissioner Stevenson called the library ‘Cretan Academy’.
Vikelea is named after the scholar and donor Dimitris Vikelas.
