Sykologos: Where the Village Square Boasts an Ancient Holly Tree

Cities & Villages

ABOUT

At the north-eastern edge of Sykologos, near its entrance, you'll find cafés and shops. Here, a large, ancient multi-stranded holly tree has taken root, lending its name to the village square.

It begins at the crest of the incline to the north of the main road and extends southward to Tertsa. To the east, it shares boundaries with the land areas of Mournies, Gdochia, and Myrtos. In the west, it borders the cadastral region of Kalami, with which it shares numerous common areas.

Sykologos is situated on the south-eastern border of the Viannos municipality in the region of Heraklion. Historically, the village's buildings served as storage facilities for the carobs and citrons grown in the region. Nowadays, in the coastal area of Sykologos, you can find extensive greenhouse cultivation of fruits and vegetables, as well as outdoor cultivation of bananas and various vegetables such as aubergines and tomatoes.
