Holy Church of the Holy Spirit, Omalos
ABOUT
A small stone chapel stands proudly in Omalos, Viannos.
This is the Holy Church of the Holy Spirit, with one of its aisles dedicated to Saint Euphemia.
Next to the church, there’s a natural spring, a handy stop for the area’s shepherds.
The church was built in 1889 by shepherd Michail Raptakis (known locally as Hatzomichelis).
Every year, the church hosts an important celebration on the day of the Holy Spirit, in honour of the fighters of the Battle of Crete and the National Resistance during the German occupation.
