Prophet Elias Church in Anopolis: A Unique Bell Tale

The holy church of Prophet Elias, situated in Anopolis, Pediada within the Municipality of Hersonissos, graces a hilltop that is worth visiting solely for the breath-taking view it provides!
The church holds a significant place in the history of the area, and adjacent to it stands a monument commemorating the fallen and the fighters of the Battle of Kopsas on 21st May 1941.
The church served as a machine gun emplacement during that time, and remnants of this usage are still evident within the building. Additionally, the church bell, situated in the same location, is actually a part of a German bomb that was dropped on the area.
The church celebrates its feast day on 20th July.
