Metamorphosis of the Saviour, Galifa
ABOUT
This is a small single-nave, barrel-vaulted church from the 14th century, built over the ruins of an older one, and still preserves parts of its fresco decoration.
Inside the vaulted roof there is a reinforcing arch. The iconostasis is made of wood, featuring icons of the Virgin Galaktotrophousa (1962) and the Transfiguration. In the vault of the sanctuary, you can see scenes of the Second Coming and the Ascension. The rest of the frescoes have unfortunately been lost.
The door frame is stone, monolithic and stepped, and above the entrance there is a small relieving arch. The window niche is also stone-built, and the two single-lobed openings, flanked by three carved crosses, are pierced.
The church celebrates its feast day on August 6.
