Old Fountain of Pombia
ABOUT
Tucked away in a small alley in Pombia, the main village of the Municipality of Faistos, you'll find the old stone fountain, also known as the goula, still flowing with remarkably cool water.
According to archaeologist Antonis Vasilakis, the basin features symbols of the three great mothers of antiquity: Rhea, Demeter, and Artemis—goddesses who, in mythology, are considered protectors of humankind.
Since 2024, during Epiphany celebrations, the local priest casts the cross into the ancient basin, which serves as the font of the old fountain.
