The mermaid is an impressive sight at the northern breakwater square in the port of Heraklion. A symbol of farewell and welcome, she extends her hand gracefully to ships, passengers, and onlookers alike.
This two-meter-long metal sculpture of a mermaid was created by architect Nikos Mourellos and was generously donated to the city of Heraklion by the artist.
This iconic sculpture has become a trademark of the city, drawing the gaze of all who pass by. Its imposing presence adds a special aesthetic to the surroundings, harmonising perfectly with the maritime atmosphere of the port area.
