The anniversary events marking the 100 years of the Union of Journalists of Daily Newspapers of the Peloponnese, Epirus and Islands (E.S.I.E.P.I.N.) begin in Heraklion with a major Archive and Documents Exhibition, hosted at the Basilica of St Mark, from Friday 20 to Monday 30 March, with the support of the Municipality of Heraklion (Municipal Art Gallery) and the Region of Crete.

The highlight of the celebrations in Heraklion will take place on Friday 27 March 2026, at 19:00, in the emblematic space of the Basilica of St Mark. In a special ceremony, the administration of E.S.I.E.P.I.N., in the presence of representatives of the authorities and the journalistic community, will honour the 100-year journey (1926–2026), highlighting the role of credible journalism as a pillar of democratic life in the regions.

Visitors in Heraklion will have the unique opportunity to explore the Archive and Documents Exhibition, featuring historic front pages, rare artefacts and archival documents that shaped the social and political life of the country, forming a vivid mosaic of our modern history.

The exhibition includes documents and publications from the Press Museum of E.S.I.E.P.I.N., which this year celebrates 70 years of contribution, along with rare archival material kindly provided by the following institutions: Archive of the Hellenic Parliament, Vikelaia Municipal Library of Heraklion, Historical Museum of Crete, Historical Archive of Crete, Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, the archive of the newspaper “Patris” of Heraklion, the archive of the newspaper “Haniotika Nea”, the Folklore Museum of Ano Viannos, and the Organization for Culture and Development of Potamies “I Gkouverniótissa”.

E.S.I.E.P.I.N., the geographically largest journalists’ union in Greece, celebrates one century of continuous contribution to journalism, democracy and culture through the anniversary programme titled “Writing History…”. Throughout the year, the union will continue its activities across various cities within its region with conferences, exhibitions and other initiatives.
