The Mountaineering Club of Rethymno continues its activity with two excursions.
The programme is as follows:
A) Weekend 14–15/3/2026
Lefka Ori Crossing
A two-day crossing of the snow-covered Lefka Ori.
We will start from Volika Refuge on Saturday morning, climb to the Spathi peak, and then descend to Livada for an overnight stay.
On Sunday we will move east and, after passing Sidiroporti, we will climb to the ridge that successively crosses the peaks Kanaki Pousia and Akrotirianos. We continue ascending to Paspalomiti and Fanari, before descending to the Tavris Plateau.
Participants must have experience in winter mountain conditions and the appropriate equipment for outdoor overnight stay.

B) Sunday 15/3/2026
Kampos – Volika
The ascent starts from the location “Gero Prino” (556m). The spot takes its name from a distinctive, centuries-old prinos tree in the area.
The trail is uphill and winds through rocky terrain with plenty of greenery. The view towards the Chania plain and Souda Bay is impressive.
The final point of this hiking route will be Volika Refuge (1310m), the oldest mountain refuge in Crete (1958). The return will follow the same route.
Hiking Time: 5–5.30
Difficulty Level: 2
Deposits to secure participation: Friday 13/3/2026, 20:00–21:30 at the club offices.
