A new annual festival titled “Visual Narrations” is being launched in Heraklion, Crete, hosted at the Art Gallery of the Hellenic Photographic Society of Heraklion, located at 20 Doukos Bofor Street.
The festival focuses on the photographic book as a form of artistic expression and visual storytelling, aiming to establish itself as a dynamic institution for visual books in Crete and across Greece.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a curated selection of photographic books published in 2022, 2023, and 2024, by both Greek and international creators. They will be able to browse, study, and draw inspiration from the works in an open and welcoming space devoted to visual creativity.
As part of the festival, there will also be a special presentation of photographic books showcased at the Photometria Photography Center during the 17th edition of the Photometria International Photography Festival in 2024, in collaboration with Photometria Festival.
The “Visual Narrations” festival aspires to become an annual event, with key goals including:
• Highlighting the photographic book as a standalone work of art
• Expanding into books of other visual art forms
• Organising exhibitions, artist talks, and presentations
• Fostering dialogue around print storytelling and visual culture
In the future, the festival will be enriched with special invitations to artists and publishers, along with parallel events for the public.
