The Municipality of Gavdos, as part of the 5th Sports Festival, is delighted to announce the 5th Road Races, set to take place on the island of Calypso, the remote and stunning Gavdos, during the Holy Spirit long weekend.

The event aims to create an open celebration of mass sport, giving both permanent residents and visitors the chance to take part, while promoting a healthy lifestyle and fair play.

At the same time, it seeks to highlight the cultural and environmental identity of Gavdos and its unique natural beauty.

Event Date: Sunday, 31 May 2026

Races

1. 10 km Race (trail terrain)

• Start: Lighthouse
• Finish: Stone Theatre, Sarakiniko
• Start Time: 18:00
• Route: Lighthouse – Ampelos – Ampelos–Kastri path – Kastri–Kopanello path – Helipad road – Exoriston path – Road to Sarakiniko – Stone Theatre
• Time Limit: 2 hours
• Eligibility: Runners over 18 & ages 15–18 with parental consent

2. 6 km Race (trail terrain)

• Start: Kastri
• Finish: Stone Theatre, Sarakiniko
• Start Time: 17:15
• Route: Kastri – Kastri–Kopanello path – Helipad road – Exoriston path – Road to Sarakiniko – Stone Theatre
• Time Limit: 2 hours
• Eligibility: Runners over 18 & ages 15–18 with parental consent

3. Children’s Race 1 km (road)

• Start/Finish: Sarakiniko / Stone Theatre
• Start Time: After the completion of the main races
• Route: Sarakiniko – Stone Theatre
• Eligibility: Children up to 17 years old with parental responsibility

Route Description

• 10 km: Mountain route with over 300 m elevation gain – for experienced runners
• 6 km: Mountain route with over 200 m elevation gain – for experienced runners and walkers

Refreshment and checkpoint stations will be available approximately every 2 km
