The Municipality of Sitia, placing special emphasis on showcasing the local gastronomic culture, is organising a two-day Gastronomy event on 13–14 August 2025, as part of the Summer Cultural Events "Kornareia 2025". The event offers a multifaceted approach to the unique characteristics of the gastronomy of the wider region.
The two-day programme includes:

13/8 – 19:00 – Central Square of Sitia
Sitia Cuisine Festival with the "Chrysocheres". The "Chrysocheres" are the leading figures of Sitia’s cuisine and the main pillars of its preservation and promotion. They are the home cooks – the mothers, grandmothers, and aunts – who will present, in their own uniquely authentic way, traditional Sitia recipes long lost in time.
Alongside the "Chrysocheres", renowned Chef Dina Nikolaou and Lena Igoumenaki, President of the Cretan Cuisine Festival Association, will also take part. -
14/8 – 19:00 – Ecomuseum of the Municipality of Sitia (former KEGE), olive grove
With the participation of Chrysa Sofianou, the event will feature a revival of Minoan cooking, using Minoan clay vessels and ingredients from that era.
The evening will continue with a hands-on Symposium, accompanied by a scientific presentation on Cretan–Minoan nutrition, supported by ELMEPA.
