With a vibrant three-day programme, the Cultural Association of Garazo marks two milestones this summer — its 45th anniversary and the 35th edition of the Pancretan Citron Festival.

The festival blends top-tier music acts with culinary innovation. Stars such as Despina Vandi and Georgia Dagaki will share the stage, while internationally renowned chef Maria Ekmetzioglou from Istanbul will present a pioneering fusion of Politiki Cuisine and the Cretan citron, showcasing the potential of this rare fruit.

The main goal remains to highlight and preserve the traditional cultivation of the citron tree, a practice on the verge of disappearing. At the same time, Garazo’s cultural initiatives present a vision for the future of the village, inviting everyone to join and support this unique celebration.

This year’s festival runs 16, 17 & 18 August 2025 and includes a special photography exhibition featuring unpublished works by the late Michalis Nikiforakis — one of the greatest Cretan photographers of the 20th century. This was his final photo series capturing Garazo, a village he adored and photographed tirelessly for six decades. The Cultural Association will honour his memory for his selfless contribution to the community.
