Adventure & Action

On Sunday, 16 November 2025, the Mountaineering Club of Heraklion (EOS) offers two different hiking options—something for every taste.

a. Kollita Gorges
Sunday, 16 November 2025
Excursion through the Velonado Gorge and the Kollita or Kato Poros Gorge.

We start from the village of Moudros (350m) and walk through the Moudros or Velonado Gorge, ending up just before the village of Velonado. Shortly after, we enter the Kollita or Kato Poros Gorge, which runs parallel to the first one. This gorge is lush and green, filled with plane trees and oaks. Along its walls, you’ll see caves and overhangs with stunning colours. A highlight is the narrow, dramatic passage between its towering walls.

After passing through the village of Kato Poros, we reach the site of the Five Virgins, where you’ll find the Byzantine church of the same name, numerous excavated Roman tombs from the settlement of Ancient Lappa, and a massive plane tree. The route ends at Argyroupoli (300m).

b. Kapetaniana – Via Ferrata
Sunday, 16 November 2025

This route through the Asterousia mountains includes challenging via ferrata passages, ideal for those with at least some climbing experience, as there are fixed cables and iron steps along many sections. The view over the Libyan Sea is absolutely breathtaking.
