The Museum of Contemporary Art of Chania – Olivepress in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania organise and present the contemporary art exhibition “ALEXANDROS MAGKANIOTIS – MONOGRAPH VIII”.

The exhibition opening will take place in the presence of the artist on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, at 20:30, at the Venetian Church of Agios Rokkos, 48 Daskalogianni & 1821 Square, Splantzia, Old Town, Chania, Crete.

The exhibition is open to visitors from Saturday, 19 September 2026.

The exhibition is curated by British visual artist and curator Nicholas Moore and the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chania – Olivepress, Ioannis N. Archontakis.

The exhibition “ALEXANDROS MAGKANIOTIS – MONOGRAPH VIII” presents works of drawing, painting and mixed media from the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chania – Olivepress and the Collection of the Municipal Art Gallery of Chania. Through the visual narrative of the exhibition, visitors can trace the entire evolution of the themes and techniques explored by the artist over the past twenty-five consecutive years of artistic creation.

Curator Nicholas Moore notes: “Magkaniotis uses collage as a fundamental basis of his practice; on top of this, he intervenes with transparencies that he has already coloured with markers. In this way, he combines diverse sources, creating visual images with multiple layers of interpretation and meaning.”

The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue (Greek and English) featuring documentation texts, analyses and comments by the curators, as well as images of all the works included in the presentation.

The exhibition “ALEXANDROS MAGKANIOTIS – MONOGRAPH VIII” is co-organised by the Region of Crete, the Regional Unit of Chania, the Municipality of Platanias, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania, Match More Art Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chania – Olivepress, and forms part of the CHANIaRT 2026 Visual Arts Programme.

With the artist Alexandros Magkaniotis himself present, the exhibition will be open from 19.09.2026 until 30.09.2026, every day from 20:00 to 23:00, with free admission.
