A special excursion is being organised by the Heraklion Mountaineering Club on Sunday, 22 March 2026.

The members describe the route as follows:
“We walk through the beautiful region of Apokoronas. Our route connects the villages of Vafes, Tzitzifes, Fres and Nippos. Along the way, we will encounter protected settlements, traditional houses, buildings of particular architectural interest, as well as elements of the area’s productive activity and the everyday life of its residents. During our walk, we will come across springs, vineyards, cypress trees, and enjoy views towards the snow-capped Lefka Ori and Psiloritis on the horizon.”
