The Directorate of Public Health and Social Welfare of the Heraklion Regional Unit has announced a swimming ban in part of the coastal area of Ammoudara, in the Municipality of Malevizi.

The decision follows a public health inspection carried out after damage to a DEYA Malevizi sewer pipeline in Ammoudara. The damage resulted in sewage leaking into the sea through the stormwater drainage system.

The swimming ban applies to the coastal area west of the former EGOI stadium, covering a distance of approximately 150 metres on either side of the stormwater outlet, which runs through Erotos Street in Ammoudara.

The ban will remain in force until further notice.
