A road race rich in symbolism is being jointly organised by the Cultural Association of Anopoli and the Cultural Association of Kato Vatheia – Vathianos Kampos “Niros” on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
The race is dedicated to the memory of Nikos Kokkinakis, aiming to honour his journey, his ethos, and his selfless contribution to his village and fellow people. The event seeks to carry forward his vision, rooted in a deep love for his homeland and a wish for more people to discover and embrace it.
The race will start and finish at Anopoli Square, featuring a 5-kilometre route for adults and a 1-kilometre route for children. The children’s race begins at 10:30 in the morning, followed by the adult race at 11:10.
Children under 10 participate free of charge, while the participation fee for all other runners is 5 euros. It is worth noting that all proceeds will be allocated to support necessary medical expenses for individuals who wish to remain anonymous, transforming the race into an act of love and offering.
As the organisers note, “Nikos believed in the power of participation and community.”
“From this belief, we draw inspiration for a race that goes beyond the route and becomes an act of love,” the two Associations underline in their joint announcement, adding:
“This year’s event also carries a charitable character, as through participation and collective effort we support fellow human beings, strengthening their struggle in a meaningful and humane way.”
