The Festival of the Region of Crete presents, on Monday, 27 July 2026 at 9:00 p.m., at the iconic Venetian Firkas Fortress in Chania, the unique musical and audiovisual production "Ode to the Beautiful City of Chania", featuring the internationally acclaimed Greek pianist and composer Dafni Laimou Zafeirakopoulou.

This is an original creation, designed exclusively for the Festival of Crete, inspired by the history, culture and unique natural landscape of Chania and Crete. Created especially for Crete, the work reflects the Festival's philosophy of connecting contemporary artistic creation with the island's cultural identity.

With a distinguished international artistic career and collaborations with leading film and television productions in the American entertainment industry, Dafni Laimou Zafeirakopoulou presents an original composition inspired by the distinctive atmosphere of Crete. Her music enters into dialogue with the sea, the Venetian heritage of Chania, its historical memory and the timeless Cretan identity, creating a work that highlights the uniqueness of the region through contemporary musical expression.

The musical performance is accompanied by a video projection, directed by internationally acclaimed director and actor Nikos Ziagos, with assistant director Afroditi Nikoleta Sfairopoulou. Through images inspired by Chania and Crete, the projection becomes an integral part of the performance, creating a living dialogue between music, image and place. Sound, visuals and the historic monument come together to create a unified artistic experience that showcases the distinctive character of Chania and Crete.

Set within the historic surroundings of the Venetian Firkas Fortress, the concert aims to offer the audience a deeply immersive experience, where contemporary musical creation meets historical memory, cultural heritage and the natural beauty of the island. It is a production that fully expresses the spirit of the Festival of Crete, which invests in the creation of original artistic works that promote the island, strengthen Crete's international outlook, and showcase its contemporary culture.

The event is co-organised with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania and supported by the Municipality of Chania, highlighting the importance of cooperation between cultural institutions and local authorities in promoting cultural heritage and contemporary artistic creation.
