The Cretan Hound is one of the oldest hunting dog breeds in Europe, with a history dating back over four thousand years.
Its presence on Crete goes as far back as prehistoric times, predating the Minoan civilization (3200–1700 BC), as evidenced by archaeological finds such as seal stones, ceramics, and frescoes.

This hound is an exceptional hunter, used for small and medium game.
It stands out for its intelligence, obedience, and athletic ability, and is renowned for its agility and intense pursuit drive.
The breed remained genetically pure on the island for thousands of years, evolving into a medium-built sighthound capable of locating, chasing, and capturing its prey using all its senses.

Today, the Cretan Hound is recognized as both a valuable companion and a superb hunting dog, playing an important role in the cultural heritage of Crete.
