The Cultural Association of Katalagari, in collaboration with public institutions, has launched a coordinated effort to highlight the monuments located on the “Paliochora” hill in the area of Katalagari.
As part of this initiative, and with the support of the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia, a two-day event is scheduled for July 10 and 11, 2025, under the title:
“Life on Our Hill”
On Thursday, July 10 at 21:00, on the hill of Paliochora, next to the Kornaroi Castle, by the Byzantine chapel of Zoodochos Pigi and surrounded by scattered olive groves, the Symphony Youth Orchestra of Crete, Municipality of Heraklion, under the direction of Miltos Logiadis, with Tasos Apostolou (bass, National Opera of Greece) and soprano Efi Papadopoulou, will present a musical evening with beloved songs by Greek composers.

On Friday, July 11 at 21:00, Loudovikos ton Anogeion, joined by Stella Seiragaki and Marina Dakanali (vocals), Dimitris Karamouzas (guitar), Dimitris Ikonomakis (bass), Sofia Mavrogenidou (flute), Filenia Spachi (cello), and Emmanouela Margioula (theatrical monologue), will offer an atmospheric evening of music, song and storytelling — all inspired by the place and the light of the moon.
Prior to the concert on Friday, July 11, at 20:00, archaeologists Eleni Kanaki, Gogo Moschovi and Nikos Giyourtakis will offer a tour of the hill’s monuments: the complex of carved wine presses, the medieval fortress of Kastelos, later known as the Castle of the Kornaroi (Castello del Cornaro), and the church of Panagia Zoodochos Pigi.
On both days, an open-air art exhibition titled “Rebirth” will be held on the hill of Paliochora, showcasing works by the Pancretan Association of Creators “Neorion Technis”, as well as by artists who are friends of the Cultural Association of Katalagari.
Admission is free.
