The Region of Crete presents the musical performance “Genous Thilykou” with the Vamos Orchestra, on Monday, 7 September 2026, at the Hersonissos Town Hall Grove in Gouves, and on Thursday, 10 September, at Paliochora Hill in Katalagari, as part of the Parallel Action “Women – Cultural Heritage – Creation” of the Crete Festival 2026. The events are supported by the Municipality of Hersonissos and the Katalagari Cultural Association, with free admission for the public.

The concert “Genous Thilykou” is a musical journey dedicated to women as creators, performers, figures and timeless sources of inspiration. Through songs from different eras, musical genres and cultural references, the performance seeks to shed light on the many facets of the female experience and presence: creativity and sensitivity, strength and resilience, love, care, resistance, assertion and social contribution.

With a carefully selected repertoire, the Vamos Orchestra creates a musical narrative in which the female voice takes centre stage. Songs and melodies become a way of highlighting different aspects of female identity, as well as the defining contribution of women to artistic creation and cultural life.

The songs are performed by Alexia Katsanevaki and Efi Papadopoulou, while Thanasis Papathanasiou is responsible for the orchestra’s musical direction and arrangements.

The musical performance is part of the broader programme of the Parallel Action “Women – Cultural Heritage – Creation”, through which the Region of Crete aims to highlight women’s presence and creativity in culture, bring women’s stories and experiences to light, and create spaces for expression, visibility and participation.

The Parallel Action is held under the auspices of the Greek National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture and the General Secretariat for Equality and Human Rights, strengthening the institutional character and momentum of the initiative. By connecting cultural heritage with contemporary artistic creation, the action highlights culture as a field of expression and participation, as well as an important means of promoting equality, inclusion and social cohesion.
