The Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete in Rethymno is offering a public guided tour of its temporary exhibition titled WHAT YOU WEAR IS WHAT YOU ARE, featuring works by both Greek and international artists.
The tour will be led by Maria Maragkou, Artistic Director of the Museum and curator of the exhibition, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 19:30, in the museum’s exhibition spaces on 32 Mesolongiou Street.
This exhibition explores the two-way relationship between fashion and contemporary art, through the work of 32 artists and designers. Even in the absence of actual clothing, the show delves into how this identity-shaping element transforms into a form of art. It’s an ongoing project aiming to spotlight this fascinating intersection.

A special highlight of the exhibition is a tribute to the internationally acclaimed Rethymnian fashion designer Sophia Kokosalaki, who brought global recognition to Greece and whose untimely passing left a lasting impact.
Through WHAT YOU WEAR IS WHAT YOU ARE, curators Maria Maragkou, Maria Panagidou, and Stavros Kavallaris explore the ways fashion and the challenges of our time intersect with contemporary art, reflecting and being shaped by its forward-thinking concerns.
The exhibition features works from the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete (CCA), ATOPOS Contemporary Visual Culture, galleries, private collections, and the artists themselves.
It is held under the auspices and with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and is realised with the support of NEON Organization for Culture and Development.
