Manolis Zacharioudakis presents works from the period 2020–2025, created in the Phaistos region as a kind of visual diary—hence the title “Notebooks of Phaistos.”
The artist aims to emphasize materiality and tangibility, giving the works volume and weight. He uses raw materials such as cement, lime plaster, and branches, reeds, and wood collected from local fields and beaches. A variety of techniques are employed: fresco, weaving, assemblage, pigment powders, glues, and more.
Themes range widely—memories, myths, constellations, everyday scenes, as well as references and commentary on books and art history.
The variety of materials, techniques, construction methods, and themes seen in the “Notebooks of Phaistos” is a hallmark of Zacharioudakis’ entire body of work: painting, constructions, object assemblages, small sculptures, and digital pieces made on the computer.
