The Samaria Gorge will be temporarily closed on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, following the 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck early this morning east of Crete. The closure is intended to allow for a full inspection of the trail.

According to the official announcement:

“The Organization for Natural Environment and Climate Change announces that, due to the earthquake that occurred today (Wednesday, May 14, 2025) south of Kasos, the gorge will be closed to visitors in order to inspect the trail for potential rockfalls. A further update is expected later this afternoon.”
